DIY: Super Cute Lipstick/Gloss Display

IMG_0353 I was inspired to create this display by a Youtube video that Lisa Pullano posted. She is awesome by the way and I really suggest that you check her page out. Of course, I decided to add my own touch to it.

This is really simply and fun to make. The materials used were items I had around the house, but if you need to purchase them it will cost you no more than $10.

You will need:

  • One 8 x 10 canvas panel
  • Thick ribbon or elastic
  • Acrylic Paint & Paint Brushes
  • Stencil & ruler (optional)
  • Writing utensil
  • Hot Glue
  • Faux flowers
  • Scissors

Next, think about how you want to design your canvas panel. Since it is extremely dreary outside and I cannot get Spring and Summer off of my mind, I chose to go with colors that screamed warmth. Make sure that you protect the surface that you are painting on and have water and paper towels handy for your paintbrushes.

Paint as many coats as you would like. I was not going for perfection with this project so I only applied on one coat. Next, I went in with the stencil and added the quote "Soft Sweet Kisses." So appropriate, right?

As you can see, I have a few smudges here and there but it adds character. Now, after you canvas panel has dried, you can begin to glue the faux flowers to the top of the panel.

It should look like the picture above. Next, get your thick ribbon or elastic. We are going to make three rows on the panel. Glue the tip of the ribbon in a horizontal position on the back of the panel. Make sure it is in a position that you could wrap it around the panel.

If you are using ribbon, glue only the bottom to the panel. It should look like a pocket. Please do not pull it extremely tight. Remember, you have to add your lipstick. Hot glue the other end on the opposite back side of the panel. Cut the remainder ribbon off and repeat two more times for your other rows. If you chose to use elastic, it is not necessary to glue the bottom. The elastic will hold your lipstick in place.

Tada!! A beautiful Lipstick Holder/Display! That was simple enough. As you can see, I added a few of my everyday lipsticks and gloss as well as my contour concealer. This is a perfect addition to any vanity.
