How To Monetize Your Dreams & Passions + Free Workbook!
As I went through the motions of my morning routine, I decided to check in to see what one of my favorite bloggers/guest bloggers, Jacque Amadi, was up to. I admire how passionate she is about following her dreams and helping others. So much so she successfully finds ways to make that her living. Jacque is well known for creating her popular boutiques, Shop Lioness and Mean Muggin', and helping brands all over with her social media consultation services. She has established a very successful e-course, Build-A-Boutique, that teaches boutique owners and future boutique owners how to build a successful boutique in 60 days--- which eliminates the extra work that would have to be done without the course. Jacque breaks down all barriers in the way of her following her dreams. Her passion puts the fuel in her tank.
Just about everyone has that one thing that gives them that uncontrollable feeling of happiness, like Jacque. The difference is that not everyone is pursuing it the way they would like, mainly because they have a job to work and no time. Well, if money never existed and you had the opportunity to live a fulfilled life for free--- what would you be doing?
Unfortunately love bug, it does cost money to live but that does not mean that you cannot be doing what you want as a career. There are ways you can monetize your dreams and what you're passionate about and create your own dream job or market yourself in a different light to obtain your dream job. Are you down? Great. I'm going to help you find a way to make money from doing what you love. Follow along closely.
So What Is It That You Love To Do?
Make a list of what you love to do from greatest to least. For example: if you love creating content for your blog but you love designing it more, place designing in front of creating content.
How Well Can You Do It & What Skills Do You Have To Get It Done?
We can love to do something, but not be very great at it. I love to sing, but I sound like a pinched-nose cat doing it. Write down how well you can do the things that you love along with the skills that you have to perform it. This is extremely important because it gives you an idea of where you need to improve and what is worth pursuing.
Let's Research The Field and The Market.
Now that you have narrowed down your list to the passion you want to pursue, you have to research the market. Ex: You're into all things digital but you especially love the marketing end. You could even just simply love social media and getting as many likes as you can. There is a field for that. Find out what position will fit well with what you want to pursue. This is how we will put a professional title on it. So if you're into digital, marketing, and media you could fall under the following title: Digital Marketing Manager, Social Media Coordinator, Social Media Specialist, Digital Account Manager, Social Media Community Manager, and the list goes on.
Find The Need and Fill the Gaps.
There is always a need--- you just have to find it. Research the needs in your field and figure out how you can fill the gaps. I can guarantee you that you have a skill or talent that someone does not have. You have to figure out how you can convince that person to hire you to fill that gap.
Research and Implement.
Research your field as much as you can. Learn as much as you can. Practice what you have learned. Sign up for e-courses and read professional advice. Get as many certifications as you possibly can. Google is your friend.
Utilize what you learned and start building on your skills. Ask your friends and family to be your mock customers. Take pictures of the process and keep the successful project for your references. Also, ask them if they could write a testimony of their experience.
Time To Build Your Personal Brand.
Become a professional expert in your field of choice. It is easier than it sounds. It is all about how you sell yourself. In order to properly sell yourself, you have to brand yourself. Imagine that you're a box. The outside of your box is nothing special--- rather plain. There is a box next to you that is bright with sparkles and a beautiful ribbon. Inside of your box, you have amazing things to offer. Inside of their box, it contains mediocre things. Just by the presentation someone is more likely to choose the sparkly box over you. Why? Well simply because it is eye catching and it took the time to present itself well. That can make a huge difference.
Your personal brand is your presentation. Make it nice. In the workbook provided, there is a sheet of questions that you can ask yourself to help mold your brand. Create a website and social media handles for your services/products. Make sure your design is clean and eye catching. Make sure your LinkedIn account is up to date as mentioned in this post. Create a logo for yourself or get one made. You want your site to be your visual resume so post your successful projects and testimonies. Be the expert.
Now that you are an expert in a field that you are passionate about and your resume and website is up and running--- it is time to start generating money. In order to do that, you have to market yourself and your brand. Provide a free service to get people over to your site. Maybe like an e-book or something that you are good at and it will not cost you much to provide. This will give people a taste of what you have to offer. If you're searching for a job instead of providing services, reach out to companies in your field. Find a group of people that will help get your name out there. That includes networking your butt off. Always have business cards available. Remember, you are presenting yourself as an expert in your field who has experience (the projects your friends/family let you do), you're certified, and your brand is inviting.
Always be prepared to have a confidence response in why someone should hire you. This is your sales pitch. Sell your benefits first and your feature last. Make the employer or potential client feel like they need you. If you follow these steps, no doubt will you land your dream job or start generating money doing something that you love.
This workbook should help you along the way of monetizing your dreams.
