The Awkward Chronicles: These Heels Are Made For Falling
By: Ashley W. (Richmond, VA)
"First, let's just say that I am indeed the definition of awkward. My whole life has been awkward. From my ears growing faster than my head to awkwardly laughing in front of my crushes. Well, I don't know if that is considered awkward or just plain weird.
My senior year in high school I had a huge crush on this guy named Sam. Every time I saw him in the hallway I would smile and he would do that weird head nod all the guys would do. He was very popular, but he wasn't a jock or anything like that. He was just really amazing and people loved that. We had chemistry together. No--- literally, we had chemistry class together (I wish the other kind).
The teacher decided to make us lab partners for our midterm exam. My ultimate goal was to get him to like me. I thought that maybe just maybe if we had that opportunity to have a conversation he would be interested. The day of our midterm I made sure I looked super cute for class. I straightened my hair, I wore these extremely tight skinny jeans and a top that actually made it look like I had boobs. I even stole my sister's pink pumps to top off my outfit. Compliments were flying my way all day!
The bell was about to ring and I was walking as fast as I could to class. Chemistry was our 5th block, so by this time my feet were crying in those pumps! I made it just in time. The bell literally rung as soon as I stepped foot in the door. Everyone was seated so it was all eyes on me as I made my way to the other side of the classroom. In that quick second, my world came crashing. Not my whole world--- just me, my books, and my phone. All I could hear was roaring laughter and pounding on the desk as I was picking my face up off of the floor. I could not believe I fell in front of the whole class. The heel practically snapped on her pumps and my ankle rolled over and I hit the floor. It happened so fast.
The teacher helped me up and asked if I needed to go to the nurse's office. He kindly said I could make up my midterm if I had to go. I took the offer. I couldn't even brace myself to look at Sam. I am sure he was too busy crying laughing at me. The fall was embarrassing, but the walk out with one broken shoe and the teacher holding my arm was so awkward. Yup, story of my life."
