Radio One Richmond Launches Black Music Month Collective
Radio One Richmond is set to celebrate Black Music Month this June with the launch of The Black Music Month Collective, a new event series aimed at showcasing local Black talent and honoring the cultural legacy of Black musicians.
Black Music Month was established in 1979 to recognize the lasting impact of Black artists on contemporary music and culture. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the observance, and Radio One Richmond is marking the milestone with a month-long celebration of live performances at local restaurants.
From R&B and jazz to hip hop and funk, the Black Music Month Collective will feature a diverse lineup of Richmond-based artists performing at four different venues across the city. The events are free and open to the public, with food and drinks available for purchase at each location.

A Celebration of Local Talent
The Black Music Month Collective aims to shine a spotlight on local artists while supporting Richmond’s diverse restaurant scene. Each event is designed to offer a cultural experience that celebrates the artistic contributions of Black musicians to the broader musical landscape.
“We are excited to take our annual celebration of Black Music Month to another level this year by supporting local artists and locally owned restaurants,” said Stacey Trexler, General Manager of Radio One Richmond stations. “This series allows us to celebrate Black music in a way that connects the community and highlights the incredible talent here in Richmond.”
Free and Open to the Public
The events are free to attend, with the opportunity to enjoy live music while supporting local businesses. Attendees will be able to purchase food and beverages from participating restaurants during the performances.
