Durag Festival, Charlotte’s premier Juneteenth celebration, returns on June 21, 2025, at the Blackbox Theater on Sugar Creek Road. What began as a small local art showcase in 2018 has evolved into a global cultural movement, blending music, fashion, art, and community empowerment. Founded by Charlotte-native Lisa Michelle, Durag Fest has become a powerful platform for redefining Black narratives, using the iconic durag as a symbol of pride, resilience, and creativity.

From its humble beginnings, Durag Fest has grown into a major event that resonates globally. Attracting attendees from places like Jamaica, the Netherlands, Mexico, and Canada, the festival has become a significant celebration of Black cultural expression. As its international presence expands, Durag Fest has garnered attention from major outlets like The Breakfast Club and Essence, solidifying its role in amplifying Black voices and creativity.
But Durag Fest is more than just a celebration—it’s an experience rooted in honoring Black cultural spaces and showcasing the power of creativity. With an intentional lineup of musicians, DJs, artists, and fashion creators, the festival becomes a platform for both local and global talent to shine. Through its powerful performances and thought-provoking art installations, Durag Fest continues to redefine the narrative surrounding Black identity.

A Legacy of Cultural Preservation Amid Change
Held annually in Charlotte’s Sugar Creek corridor, Durag Fest serves as a statement of cultural preservation. With rapid redevelopment transforming the area, the festival stands as a reminder of the rich Black history that built the neighborhood. By hosting the festival in Sugar Creek, Durag Fest honors this history while ensuring that future generations remain connected to their roots. It’s an intentional act of resilience, where the community celebrates Black joy and creativity in the face of change.
A Diverse Lineup and Immersive Experiences
Durag Fest 2025 brings an exciting mix of talent, led by headliner TiaCorine, the trap-anime artist making waves in the music scene. Alongside her, expect powerful performances from local and rising stars like Eastside Brotha, Care Ausar, Byron Juane, Loren Lai, Jaibria, Capital Q, and Booly Money. The festival will also feature high-energy DJ sets from See Bird Go, DJ E Sudd, Afrikano, Fiji Boi, and DJ K Grady.
Festival-goers can enjoy unique spaces such as the A704 Lounge, Big Sipz Bar, and food trucks at The Caf. Exclusive VIP experiences include the VIP Glow Lounge, VIP Salon by Pardon My Fro, Wavy Karaoke, and VIP Portraits. The day wraps up with the official Durag Fest After Party at Queen Park Social.
